A Food Drug and Health Awareness Project: Part 2 of 3

“Many things can be unnecessarily complicated and constantly fleeting, but a song is much easier to absorb and remember. It stays with a person, enriches the experience, and provides a more profound innerstanding.”

Music is an excellent means for processing and retaining new information. This is true for all of us, starting way back in the womb. If it wasn’t for music and song, many of us probably wouldn’t even know our ABC’s, right? In some oral traditions, a large chunk of the culture and history is passed down via song alone. Which is exactly why we’ll be using it as the basis of our research for this project.

Sound, its frequencies, harmonics, vibrations, etc. are in themselves, instruments for, and keys to, healing and enlightenment. They also provoke ideas, expressions and feelings of all sorts. When they are combined and experienced through song, they will facilitate a bridge and create an interconnection between: your internal consciousness, emotion and memory; and whatever information is being presented, along with the experiences that are attached to them. By themselves, many things can be unnecessarily complicated and constantly fleeting, but a song is easier to remember and stays with a person! If you are inspired to look further into something because of a song; or if you engage in listening to music and lyrics that speak to whatever you are currently pursuing; you can enrich the experience, expedite the journey without compromise, and gain a more profound innerstanding of the matter, as a result. If the tune is internalized and committed to memory, you will be able to recall the song (and what you learned from it) on the fly, at any given time. It can then be used as a reference when making decisions, provoking a needed mind-state, remembering formulae, and so much more! Since the song is the catalyst or supporting centerpiece of the deeper studies, a sizeable amount of the extended knowledge you acquire in relation to it will remain attached to the song. Basically, if the song is in your memory, it can be recalled; along with the experiences, knowledge, energies and emotions gained in relation to it.

The science of the tone and the power of its acoustic properties are utilized in the fields of education, religion, hypnosis, etc. It is used for healing, learning, memory management, and even those shady “noise programs” running rampant these days! Our enigmatic relationship with sound has been well known throughout history. It has been studied, practiced and applied by our ancestors in many dynastic periods, cultures, spiritual art forms and religious philosophies, for thousands of years. The possibilities go far beyond the scope of this brief explanation. It is well worth the time to look further into the phenomenisticalness of soundscapes, outside of this project.

There is a special kind of music that is often socially ignored and culturally overlooked, especially when covering topics like the ones in this article. Basically it’s been slept on. Despite this fact, the creative soundscapes are a breeding ground for awareness, consciousness, free-thinking, Nubian empowerment, collective effort, Self-Love and more. Listening to, absorbing, challenging and studying the music in detail can change your life and provide practical motivation, useful knowledge and other great benefits. Most of it can’t be found on the stat quo media platforms, but it’s live and active in the natural scene or underground, which is mostly where the real heartbeat and soul of the music and culture dwells, anyway. But if you look hard enough, you can always find a few nuggets in the mainstream. And it has ALWAYS been this way. You just gotta dig in, UDig? Listening to artists such as KRS-One, Brand Nubian, Poor Righteous Teachers, Public Enemy, Cross Movement, Jeru The Damaja, Locksmith, Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, K-Rino, Mos Def and many others, can lead to great realizations, interesting manifestations, knowledge of self, esoteric teachings, health awareness, theological insights, political and social clarifications, and a host of other valuables throughout ones life journey.

Here's a few starter tracks to get the blood flowing!

The Hip Hop Health Pyramid: Dead Prez - SuperNova Slom - Mos Def

Notice that all of the artists mentioned and songs presented above are Hip Hop. This is important because Hip Hop has always been attacked and blamed for a lot of the corruption in society, instead of being recognized as a blessing, benefit and great cultural contribution. It is often accused of being a negative, degenerating, simple minded genre of music; pioneered and sustained by superficial, money hungry, lustful, ghetto-minded, immature young blacks; from impoverished communities, broken homes and violent gangs, struggling with literacy. On the contrary, these things do not define the culture at all. Behaving and believing in such an asinine way is only a plague to our people and the music. Some of these stereotypes are present throughout our struggling society, and the mainstream establishment enjoys intentionally pushing this narrative to the masses, for profit and power. And there’s always someone willing to sign up and be the front man, in exchange for fame, status, money and God knows what else. Often because they are disenfranchised, poor, young, naive, thirsty for fame, etc. Either that, or they just don’t give a f*ck and don’t stand for anything but their own self interests, just like many of the ones who pull them in. But in TRUTH, this belief, behavior and narrative is far from what defines true Hip Hop and the culture it exposes to the world.

Over-commercialized, gimmicky rap is to True Hip Hop as refined, processed, chemical based foods are to Nature and Wholistic Existence. A total disgrace and disaster of The Sacred, if you ask Labtek! Cultural appropriation at its finest, if you ask Dame Dash. Mastered, promoted and praised in the western world and mind-state.

We must understand the importance of our collective well being as a people. We can not thrive in a culture that degrades our physical health. Nor can we prosper under conditions that keep our mental state malfunctioning and our higher self-awareness incapacitated. This is especially true for The Afrikan/Nubian being! You must study and invoke the conscious forces and sciences of your ancestors (such as ImHotep) and activate MAAT. Let’s awaken a healthier life by way of food and medicine with our warrior spirit of Herukhuti.

Awaken your HeruKhuti!

In the meantime, make it your active intentions to eat healthy, rest well, work on that core and meditate on peace. Laugh, enjoy Life and Love to the fullest.

And remember... It's cool to Live!

Just finished the Cipher. As for me, I prefer music without words but I’ve come to learn that just because no words are present, the track preference definitely makes a difference with the ear and spirit reception. As I’ve been learning through my engineer EAP, sound waves/MHz is extremely important and makes different impacts on the brain and soul. Jazz and soundscapes do me much justice when trying to transition into sleep. It is also useful with studying and during the times I have to solve accounting equations. Thank you for another thought provoking lesson. Salute.
