"There's More To Forget 3: Trivial Pursuits"
“A de-cluttered mind, free of indifferent trivia is surely a key element needed to take action towards those prosperous events in life that haven't happened yet, but should be happening already!!”
UD Tweet
In the previous Cipher, we went in on the negative, poisonous dramas that fill our thoughts and memory banks. It was tough, but we had to do it. If you haven’t been over there yet, be careful. If you got past that one, the toughest part is over. We can relax and take it easy a bit on this one… I think.
So there’s all the toxic drama that needs to get handled and purged from the memories. That’s a top priority for revival. Will we consciously choose free focus over chaos and allow the mind to freely think up positive prospects instead of 20 conflicts a day? Even when we’re slick at making it look all good on the outside, will we ever actually live up to the term “drama-free” in our minds and hearts? A good question to re-visit. We’ll put a star next to that one, as a reminder. 😉
Then we come to all the trivial pursuits. The kind that we think should get an extended stay because it’s really not bad or good. It’s just stuff, right? Some cool stuff, some dumb stuff, some smart stuff and a bunch of uncategorized ‘other’ stuff. No harm, no foul. In a small percentage, there are some values and benefits in certain kinds of trivia. But if you’re not selective, it’s just a bunch of useless brain filler. Filling your mental storage with random information that is not intended to be used for anything meaningful or productive; or for anything at all in many cases. There’s nothing wrong at all with spending time absorbing trivial or general information. Whether it be for fun, entertainment, curiosity, etc. But if it starts to steal time and space away from what’s important (and most of it usually does) time to drop it. If it begins to get in the way of your better judgment, that’s time not well spent. If it ultimately does not prove to contribute to your over-all improvement and use, ditch it! With the plethoric overload of random and general ‘information’ we have available to us today, if you tuned in to as much as you can, there’d be no more YOU! Besides all the radio broadcasts, TV shows, movies, books, magazines, gossip networks, social gatherings and grapevines that already existed; the floodgates of the internet have been opened. Now on top of all that, we got UD websites, Twitter tweets, Facebook feeds, and Internet memes; self-help e-books and a million new independent song hooks. Some people’s memories hold more about the problems of the latest rich icon or criminal in the news than those of the people they sleep in the same house with every night. When you know more about the plot to the latest internet trend, NASA theory, scary movie or reality show than the plot to your own life, purpose and future! You’ll find yourself chasing behind all this cool and interesting stuff. But in the grand scheme of things, are you being played like a dunce cap?…

Everybody’s movements, agenda and interests are front and center. From their clothing line, to their philosophy, to their new channel. Your local fire department, the FDA and the Presidents of your top five favorite countries have a follow-us-on-social-media campaign going on. No shame in their game. I’m like WTF, bruh? Everybody and everything is vying for your attention, focus, support, dollar, time, donations, likes and subscribes. It’s a gol’ darn cotton picking mess I tell ya Annie! No disrespect to my people or anything, I’m just saying! A bit of it has it’s uses and needs, but c’mon Ray J? WTF my human family? Unless you’re worried about missing something. Like what Lenny Thomas ate for dinner this evening or what your favorite public figure thinks about whatever current topic is circulating at the moment, and…….
Wait, give me a moment…. Whoo…
Sorry about that. My head hurts from being bombarded with every news feed I pass; and blasted on social media with every thought and expression that pops out of someone’s wacky where-am-i? head; and thrown into every conversation within earshot; and whispered at, to buy nearly every for-sale item produced from here to China’s no-they-didn’t underground market… YES THEY DID! Thanks a lot Obama… It’s the noisiest whispers I’ve ever heard. It’s actually more like getting your face crammed into everything the world spits out by the minute. And there’s always somebody around to encourage more of it. Leaving you dizzy and much less able to prioritize your life.

I say shut ’em down!
Everybody’s got a story to tell and a product, service or 3-step program to sell. And that’s cool. We need these avenues. But we have to put these things in perspective and selectively choose what we give our everything to in this game of life. It’s OK to take in a bit for leisure. You know, chill a lil bit and just enjoy yourself. But if you actuality sit down and crunch the numbers, probably about 80 percent of the intake most of us currently consume has no transferable use or constructive value and serves as brain filler at best. The memory banks are overloaded and exhausted to say the least. Have you found yourself often over-consumed with useless trivia or meaningless social info?
Picture this analogy: It’s like packing a single toothbrush, into a box the size of a stove, and then filling it to the brim with Styrofoam and bubble wrap. If Amazon did that with your delivery, you’d be like…

Makes no sense. It’s a straight waste for more obvious reasons than one. Well, that box is your mind. The toothbrush is the useful item. Cause lord knows we can all use one of those right now. 🙂 And what’s left in the box is all the needless trivia! Good luck getting to what really matters!

Yep. It’s one of those hidden causes of anxiety for a lot of us. How many people are making some sort of claim to that these days? It’s a psychological issue that has been infecting more and more people as a response to the meaningless “access to information”. The kind of info that just keeps arbitrarily expanding like the big bang theory, with no resistance; every single day; through technology, social media and walking gossip tanks. The clutter and barrage of info is not entirely to blame, but we can definitely see a pattern there. They’ve come up with more stuff to share with you than outer space has to offer. And there’s more random knowledge out here to chew on than 6 feet of bubble tape. Trivial stuff. SMH.
Whether it’s random knowledge, news, gossip or entertainment, stop obsessing over and prioritizing it. Making it the ubiquitous standard in your life. You’re not profiting from it. Someone else is. There’s no use for it. Unless one of your life goals is to set the record for most wins on the jeopardy show or something, much of it deserves the boot. For too many of us, much of what has been committed to our personal memory is stale outdated trivia, overshadowing meaningful concepts, ideas and inspirations. Those that have been, and could still be, positively transformational for us. We definitely don’t want that dynamic anymore! Or am I speaking only for myself?
It serves us more use to Bless the mind with some Feng Shui and help it balance. Instead of trivial archiving, give it the re-arrangement and freed space it needs to meditate on the gifts of life. Clear the unnecessary trivia. It’s just a bunch of indifferent distractions. They make no difference either way. And too much indifference can keep you from choosing a path and getting tuned in to what’s important. It can even disrupt some of your abilities to be loyal, seek love and make solid commitments. How so? Because you’re programmed with indifference. Training your mind and memory to value and focus on things that don’t matter. Whatever you’re being programmed with will probably still be in your life after the valuable people and/or opportunities fade. It’s an unconscious coping mechanism for many. If you stay consumed in the activity, you don’t have to feel or even notice how jacked up things are. It’ll eventually get swept under the rug of mind dumbing information surplus. A paradigm shift is desperately calling!
A de-cluttered mind, free of indifferent trivia is surely a key element needed to take action towards those prosperous events in life that haven’t happened yet, but should be happening already! Did you follow me there? We all have something like that in our lives that is in dire need of our attention and effort. Care to engage a paradigm shifting challenge with me? Allow your mind to forget and flush out the negativity along with the useless trivia. Whatever you and the life around you needs to benefit, progress and be well is the new focus to commit to memory! Period! For me, some of the bigger things are healing and recovery (physical health and beyond), exploring this fascinating planet, reaching new creative/artistic heights, having more enlightening experiences and co-existing in balanced fulfilling interactions with those that I share life with. What are some of yours? Leave em in the comments so you won’t forget. (Straight plug, low key, though) 🙂
Seriously though. Get a pen and write a few down if it’ll help the memory. You don’t have to jump to the big and broad stuff like I just did if you get anxiety or easily overwhelmed. Take it easy. Start where it’s comfortable and makes enough sense. Now just chill and go over those new thoughts with yourself for a comfortable while. Talk about it realistically with yourself and share some supporting self-dialogue for a while. Aloud if possible. Don’t worry, you won’t look crazy for communicating aloud with yourself. I do it all the time! Even a whisper counts. Now create some mental visuals to see your focal points in action and get those ideas circulating through the mind. Keep communicating and picturing scenes in your mind, no matter what tries to interfere. Engage yourself and your positive ideas as intimately and completely as possible. What’s all this for? By doing this, you’re causing the focal points you thought of (or wrote down) to become more of an experience and event that you are actively filtering into the memory, on purpose (point one). And, something stupid that’s been strutting around up there HAS to go to fit your new God given ideas in there (point two). Even if you are not sure on what actually got deleted. Don’t trip. Let your memory do it’s thing! You got it! If you get good at doing this… I’m sorry, WHEN you get good at doing this, the mind will think these thoughts are actually happening. Because they are! Consider this my friendly reader. A simple thought or idea can easily get discarded by our forget system, but a full on experience is much harder to get rid of. Keep doing this and your mind will be like, “If you spent passionate time and energy on it, it must be worth saving. I’m locking it in captain!”
You will be taking the time to consciously influence those filters I accused of being random and commit that goodness to memory yourself! Soon your mind will get the message and show support. Just as it helped you out when you were relentlessly shoving data banks of garbage in. No more being on auto-pilot with fleeting thoughts at the mercy of an arbitrary mental filter.
Cooperate with the mind’s built in trash removal and de-cluttering system. When it’s functioning properly at least. Going forward, concentrate on allowing your mind to skip the negative BS and drop the trivial pursuits. Take a look at your Life with a clear view and it becomes obvious, you’ve got so much better to do! Oooooooh! 🙂
